About Edward
Ed is both a licensed Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. He began working for Stuart F. Somers while in High School and continued through his college years while attending the University of Connecticut. After graduating in 1990 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering he started working for Stuart F. Somers full-time.
In 1998 he left the employ of Mr. Somers to originate the civil engineering department of the Bradford E. Smith and Sons land surveying company in Woodbury, CT. While there for two years he was responsible for subdivision layout, road design, drainage calculations, soil testing, septic system design, and inspection of site work for residential sites and subdivisions.
Subsequent to this tenure Ed also worked for 2 years for the Town on New Milford, CT, where he designed and managed construction for various municipal projects. He was also credited with the design and oversight of their Main St. streetscape improvements, numerous road reconstructions, drainage reports, bridge inspections, bid and easement preparation, as well as plan reviews for municipal boards and Commissions.
Ed has returned to the staff of Stuart Somers Co. LLC as Senior Engineer. He plays an integral part in our design team that thoughtfully transforms raw land into commercial developments, subdivision road systems, and building lots from concept to design, municipal approval, and construction.
Ed is proficient in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), and also has a thorough knowledge of global positioning software, hydrology-modeling software, and surveying software. He works closely with Municipal agencies, Health Districts, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, Land Conservation Trusts, Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Northwest Conservation District on projects doing what is necessary to gain approvals for his clients while still satisfying their design requirements.
